Deconstructing Essay 2

Thesis statement: Katherine Mansfield and John Steinbeck both portray two different women's reactions to their individual situation, and to allow their distressed emotions to come forward.

Supporting points
1. By using metaphors and comparisons, the authors show the setting of the story while communicating the atmosphere.

2. Since the characters are not described thoroughly, the reader must use his or her imagination to make them more vivid.

3. The characters tend to break down when they realize that the way they perceive the world is not the same as the way the world perceives them.
